Canadian Forces Environmental Medicine Establishment (CFEME)

Canadian Forces Environmental Medicine Establishment (CFEME) is a unit of the Canadian Forces Health Services, which is closely integrated with Defence R&D Canada-Toronto. The commanding officer of CFEME is the Associate Director General of DRDC Toronto.

  1. To conduct clinical investigation of selected referred military personnel;
  2. To conduct training in diving and aerospace medicine and in the environmental medical aspects of all operational environments; and
  3. To provide Canadian Forces (CF) participation in Defence R&D Canada – Toronto activities through allocation of personnel in the applied human sciences including operational medicine, clinical and field trials.
  • Medical assessment of aircrew, divers and other CF personnel referred to us for specialized medical assessment.
  • Aerospace and undersea life support equipment design, test and evaluation
  • Environmental medical training
  • Operational human factors assessments
  • Health hazards assessments
  • Accident investigation (diving and aircraft)
  • Support to DRDC Toronto research
