Human Sciences Hub ®/om, Enhancing human performance

The Human Sciences Hub®/om (HuSH), represents a new approach to how DRDC Toronto interacts with its external partners in industry, academia, and other government departments. The Hub is the framework through which external partners interact with DRDC Toronto.

A key long-term goal of the Hub is strategic engagement of academics, industry and other related research organizations through the creation of an outreach centre focused on the Human Sciences. The Hub will build upon DRDC Toronto's current relationships with external partners to foster the creation of a new collaborative network in the Human Sciences.

To help realize such a broad vision, the Hub framework has three distinct but related components:

1) Collaborations and Partnerships with DRDC Toronto

The Hub is the primary interface for external partners to engage DRDC Toronto's research expertise, technologies, and facilities. This is administered via:

  1. Service agreements for the use (on a cost-recovery basis) of DRDC Toronto's research expertise, and the unique facilities managed by DRDC Toronto's Human Effectives Experimentation Centre
  2. Collaborative research arrangements between DRDC Toronto and external research partners

2) Access to DRDC Toronto Intellectual Property

The Hub administers external access to the extensive Intellectual Property output of DRDC Toronto, including technology transfer, licensing, and commercialization.

3) Human Sciences Innovation Network with our Collaborative Partners

This Network will be open to private and public sector organizations working in the Human Sciences, with a common goal of research collaborations and communications between network members. It will be a collaborative network aimed at strengthening members' impact through leveraging of Network members' expertise and technologies.

The Network will:

  • Meet regularly to discuss issues relating to Human Sciences and brainstorm new ideas and concepts
  • Develop new products and technologies
  • Form new consortia and partnerships between network members
  • Develop solutions to the Human Sciences challenges facing Canada and other nations

all in an open and collaborative environment.

The Human Sciences Hub ®/om will be holding a number of events over 2010 to introduce it and DRDC Toronto's program to external partners. To receive notification about these events or for more information about the Human Sciences Hub ®/om, please contact DRDC Toronto's External Relations Office collabo-toronto@drdc-rddc.gc.ca.
